Vol 38: When Leadership Meets Opposition

When Leadership Meets Opposition

As leaders, we all inevitably face opposition.

Sometimes it’s for our beliefs, sometimes our decisions, and sometimes our action or inaction.

Let’s be honest, the knee-jerk reaction to defending ourselves not only does not help, it often makes things worse. What’s a better way?

Pause and Reflect:

First - Examine yourself: What story are you telling yourself about this? What of that story is fact and what is emotion? What feedback or evidence have you received that this is true?

Next: Consult your trusted circle; the friends who are your personal “Board of Directors.” These are the people who know you deeply and can offer an honest reflection of your behavior. Yes, even if it stings!

Then: Reflect, reflect, reflect. What drove your decisions? What was your motive?

Remember, growth doesn’t come from avoiding scrutiny. it comes from embracing it.

What you do next is up to you!

“The Strongest Leaders are those who listen when it’s hard, and grow, even when it hurts.” -Loren Sanders
